In President Barak Obama’s Inaugural Speech, he defines democracy as a promise, a connection between individuals and the government and an inspiring action. During this time period jobs are increasing and our education is poor, occurring locally. Occurring nationally, The United States is experiencing climate changes, a slight job increase and the beginning of a stable economy. Occurring worldly, The Americans are being killed by the embassy, Syria, and Egypt. President Obama’s audience consists of the middle class, congress, and the United States. Obama begins the piece with defining democracy and reminds us of our history and provides us with facts and proof of success from our history. He then transitions to a list of goals for us and connects us. Finally Obama focuses on our current equality issues and ends with uniting us all. Obama uses logos to inform and to discuss his audience that a promise, a connection between individuals and government, and an inspiring action to re-define democracy. Obama writes, â€Å"Self executing†, his goal is for him to convince his audience that democracy needs people and people who will act. By connection those two words he unites the people with how to change. President John F Kennedy also talks about the United States but in a different time period, both presidents are looking for a change. In John F. Kennedy’s Inaugural Speech, he defines democracy as the unity, and the choice. During this time period, the 50’s and 60’s, fallout shelters are happening. Occurring locally is a suburban area, a family with 2 parents, a car, and a T. V. with the local news is normal everyday life. Fear of actual attack, the fall out drills, communism and competing for technology, like atomic bombs, and the space race is occurring nationally. Occurring worldly, we are in the middle of the Cold War. Soviet Russia, Cuba, and Russian allies enter the Korean War to stop the spread of communism. Kennedy’s audience consists of friends and foes, old allies, new states, people in huts and villages, sister republics, and the world assembly of sovereign states. President Kennedy begins the piece with identifying our history as unique and different from Obama. Kennedy then lists his specific audience, addresses them, and threatens them with fear. Finally, Kennedy unites them. Kennedy uses pathos to persuade his audience that uniting everyone can save the world and if we divide, there will be destruction. In President Kennedy’s speech, he does this mostly with fear. Kennedy writes, â€Å"Not as a call to bear arms, through arms we need- not as a call to battle, though embattled we are- but a call to bear the burden of a long twilight struggle, year in and year out. President Kennedy uses pathos by description, â€Å"Not as a call to bear arms, through arms we need. † In President Kennedy’s speech, he inspires us by showing ways to unite our people. By uniting everyone, we can stop the spread of communism and create peace. All of these men have goals and present ways to achieve them. Governor Kasich, President Obama, and President Kennedy all have their own ways of defining democracy. All of these men define democracy i n their own ways. I would define democracy as fighting for the people, choice, rights, diversity and freedom. The people in a democracy should be able to discuss issues, protest, and decide on laws. Being a part of a democracy is to come together make choices as a whole, and making the best decision possible. Fighting for America’s rights and protesting what they believe together defines what democracy should be and what they should strive to be. In conclusion, Governor John R. Kasich, President Barack Obama, and President John F. Kennedy all have definitions of democracy, being unity, self execution and promises. To reach democracy, we have to act and unite to be one country.
